There were rumblings of potential layoffs today within KPMG Deal Advisory due to the potential recession and then hiring too many people during the SPAC boom last year & not having enough work for people. It started with discussion about how they’re asking people to not use the mentorship budget so much, and how it’s probably going to lead to potential layoffs in the next few months. Has anyone at kpmg heard of this too? Is this something other firms have heard of happening for them too?

I haven’t heard about layoffs yet, but I have heard about underutilized Deal Advisory staff moving to other service lines for the time being.

The deal market is very slow now, but when it picks back up they will need to have staff readily available to put projects on.

Will see what the future holds . . .

I’m low key hoping I get laid off. Anyone else?

What is the mentorship budget?

like

Cutting this should do the trick. No layoffs necessary.

What do people mean by “rumblings” lol. Like you heard around the office there were layoffs in the horizon? I wouldn’t be surprised if mentorship budgets are cut though everyone is doing that

OP we were told to update our Smart Connect, which is like our resume/LinkedIn profile internally with KPMG.

We also had a internal career fair like two weeks ago. There’s a lot of openings in other service lines I think they are trying to fill internally.

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. I regularly interface with leadership internally and at the client. But, I am aligned to the “Operations” capability and make the least of my teammates who perform seemingly identical work but are aligned to “Strategy and Consulting.” I worry I’m on a career path to being paid the least wherever I go, because Operations is in my title and background.

hi all, currently have two offers:

1: EY - FDD, home city, very good $$ for FDD

2: PwC - post-merger integration, DDV team (essentially M&A Consulting) - bigger city, always been keen to move

Coming as a Senior in Audit, with recent FDD exposure (2 deals, obviously not much). I was looking for something more than just number crunching, wanting a mix of quant / quali / strategic work. M&A Advisory or a Corp Strategy role is where I'm looking to end up long term.

Thanks in advance!

🐠, need opinions/advice. Persistent recruiter asked me to consider having an exploratory convo with a company for a VP role even though I’m not looking to make a switch. That casual convo has morphed into two interviews this week, one with an SVP and EVP and one with the global head of the practice. It would be a $65k bump in salary. Worth going through with it? My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…
