With part of my time I focus on the day to day wins, to keep everyone grounded in the present.
The other part of my time I try to focus on proactively responding to changes in our industry and client needs. And make sure that as I work with my people to develop the skills I think they need as things change, that we speak about those things as growth opportunities and futureproofing so they know that even while I can’t tell the future, we are together in trying to be ready for it.
And I try to be positive without bullshitting people.
If things are looking shaky in general, there's no point in trying to evade that reality. People can see the news and trying to contradict reality will just lose you credibility. So be forthright, but project confidence in dealing with whatever is within your control. Focus on current goals as well as the importance of developing new skills to meet whatever the looming challenges may be. Always emphasize the theme of being resilient and adaptable. You'll keep people motivated if they realize you're not hiding your head in the sand, but you're meeting the moment.
