I highly recommend visiting Monterey if you have the time. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a little pricey but absolutely worth every penny. South or Monterey is Carmel by the Sea where you can oogle over beautiful homes right by the beach. A little furtjer south is Point Lobos and Big Sur. Californias natural coast like is something you'll never forget. San Francisco is also an amazing city, especially when you visit the right things. Santa Cruz is also near by. Capitola is a small beautiful beach town that is nice to visit. This weekend they are having there art and wine festival. I'm really sad I can't be there for it because it's awesome. IMO San Jose and the surrounding cities don't really have cool things to see like these other options do.
Within 50 miles - Monterey, Santa Cruz, Big Sur in South and San Francisco touristy points in North
Within 100 miles - Napa and environs
Within 200 miles - Yosemite
