I don't know what the culture is like at Big4, but it's great here. Everyone is friendly, down-to-earth, no backstab etc. As to level... you'll probably start as a late Consultant or CTL (case team leader), potentially a manager. It's rare to start an external hire as manager because you don't know the Bain way of doing cases, but it's not impossible (just unlikely, unless you're another MBB or maybe OW/ATK)
Will the answers to these questions prevent you from applying?
@PwC2 yes you would have to restart from the beginning. I can count on a single hand how many people from PwC are genuinely interesting to do things outside of work and caring./A types.
Think about the people that get into MBB they are a cut above. Then think about the people that get into PwC.
Generally you will start as a new associate as the way they think/do work is different. (Generalist) otherwise you'll join as an expert in a certain area.(higher level)
SL1 I’m simply looking for some advice / insights. Isn’t that what Fishbowl is for?
Can’t tell you what the difference is, because I’ve never worked at B4. What I can tell you is how awful it is for the team when Bain does hire external managers...they typically do not do well and the team suffers. Our office stopped hiring them.
There have been multiple threads lately alluding to problems at Bain. Worth inquiring about.
It’s unlikely they would hire you at Manager level. Generally MBB doesn’t hire external people into generalist consulting above their post MBA level role.
^ agree with B&C1 on entry points. Generally, external hires are rare unless at the expert level. I’m not clued into current hiring needs so can’t speak to how you would place in as a more experienced/expert hire.
Think the culture is phenomenal here - warm people who care about you and your professional/personal development and have purpose outside of work. I like to say that they’re folks who would give you an office tour if you’re in the area and ring them up for a job, rather than just hopping on the phone 😊
Not sure what Booz is referring to...but Fishbowl always has some rumor or other about us 🙄
^ sure we do. We have plenty of lateral PLs and Ps
@BCG We don’t really (McK) generally feeling is that EM is too senior to hire an external generalist. Not to say impossible, but unlikely
PwC 1 does that mean you have to start back at most junior level together with new grads?!
I believe they have an engagement manager role there too. No way you have to restart your consulting career lol
What is so different about MBB strategy cases vs. B4/ACN strategy cases? I get that a typical B4 MC person would not be able to run a case given the difference in subject material.
@KPMG I think it’s more way of working, and culture rather than skill set.
EM owns the team, so if they aren’t aligned with how everyone works it can get messy. Once you’re quite senior changing your way of working is a bigger task than as a BA or Associate.
