Hello, I recently was reached out to by an in-house recruiter at a similar but slightly different company than the one I currently work for. The recruiter provided a base range and an OTE range. The lower end of that range is what I am currently making. The higher end of that range is almost 200k more than my current comp. The role is almost identical. I wasn’t looking to move, but that higher end range would set my family up very nicely for our goals. But I am happy at my current company. Help?

My company recently changed my commission plan by capping half of our variable payout, resulting in the sales reps making roughly 30% less on commission checks when going over quota. It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

People that have small children - how do you deal with your child’s stress and separation anxiety when you go to work? My 4-year old goes berserk almost every day at some point relating to me having to work. The worst part is that I’ve been working from home bc of Covid and I’m literally just walking upstairs after giving hugs and kisses and saying see you soon 800 times. My spouse is a stay at home parent, but that doesn’t seem to matter to my son. A piece of me dies everyday because of this.

I interviewed for KPMG on 11/15 for a Senior role and the HR emailed me on 11/16 that everyone liked me but they think I should be hired as an Experienced Associate. I had a call with the HR on 11/17 wherein we discussed about my salary expectations and the HR said he will get back in a day. It’s been more than 10 days and multiple follow ups but still no response. I don’t think I was rude while talking to the HR, I just told my current salary and asked for min. that no. Did i miss the chance ?

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Are there any tax professionals in the Lancaster, PA area that are looking to leave public? At any level above Senior, how do u manage the relationship between utilization and realization, which is an inverse relationship. Seems to be either blow the budget (and write it off), or eat a lot of time.
