You must be good. They ghosted me.

The last two FT jobs I’ve had, I was contacted by a recruiter out of nowhere. Freelance also has come from recruiters or referrals from someone who knows me. I’ve applied to a shitload of jobs and also contacted recruiters myself, and for some reason every single job I’ve successfully gotten was from literally not doing anything. All the jobs I chase, I rarely get.

Send connection requests to every recruiter you can find on linkedin (search “Allies In Recruiting” a ton of them are members) and make sure your portfolio is easy to find on your profile.

Then, it’s a waiting game. The sad truth is recruiters need their employers to think they couldn’t have filled the role without them, or else they’d be out of a job. So, they have to make it seem like they “discovered” the talent.

like

1. I exported my LinkedIn connections and went down the list to identify which connections worked somewhere I could see myself working AND who might also be willing to refer me.
2. I signed up for job alerts for those specific companies.
3. Once I found a job I was interested in, I hit up my connection BEFORE I applied.
4. They wrote me a glowing referral and sent me a referral link. I tailored my resume to the job using Jobscan, applied, and got a screening interview.
5. I did extensive research on the company before I interviewed and also rehearsed answers to questions they were likely to ask. I brought notes to each interview stage.
6. I spent an entire weekend on an assignment I had to complete toward the end of the interview process, putting in more research/thought/effort than required. I know these assignments are controversial because you’re basically doing free work, but this is your chance to prove that you can do what you say you can do and show how much you want the job.
7. I got the job.

Sorry it’s taking a while, it’s a rough job market!

What worked for me: I applied for jobs that were available through my connections (friends, former coworkers, alumni network, etc.). Recruiters didn’t work for me, but also talked to them. Prioritized connections and quality applications but still applied around quite a bit.

At my previous job, my supervisor up'd and left without any notice. I got an email from a recruiter literally hours after and I applied. Got an interview with the hiring manager and she hired me 2 hours afterwards.

Has anyone here renegotiated their salary after a short time being in a role? I accepted a position and I like what I do but I realize that the workload requires a lot to see success and I feel a bit burned out already with my 40 hours/week and occasional extra 30 minutes to an hour a day.

I am stuck between putting in my time and showing my value and asking for an increase to validate doing so to avoid job hopping after a year or so.

Just became an ACD. Im in a limbo. Half of the time im being treated as a Super Senior AD and the other half im being treated as a Almost CD. Then when im scoped over work that my CD and I oversee, some people are asking me how does my role differ from the CD’s, as they tend to look at me as an unnecessary layer for approvals. In a way, i do the job so well that i get asked to do more AD projs and guide more projs — but then: wtf does my CD do? They mostly just 👍🏻what i direct n approve
