Thoughts on how I should roll out this policy. I'm wanting to make things more fair for my staff. A little more than half the staff smoke and they take smoke breaks throughout their shifts, while the rest of the staff are limited to their meal break. So, I'm going to eliminate smoke breaks for the staff while they're on the clock. I think this seems fair. Why should smokers get extra breaks? Plus, I'm hoping the smoke smell wafting off people will dissipate.

This is going to cause drama no matter how you roll it out. Hope you're prepared. Maybe give everyone short breaks instead of eliminating them entirely? At least to start? Like if smokers were getting 10 minutes, now everyone gets 5 minute during their shift instead?

You're about to have a lot of really angry smokers on your hands. Are a lot of the non-smokers complaining about how things are now? If not, I would just leave it alone.

I am no a server
I work in hotel hospitality. I have an 8 hour shift with a 30 minute paid lunch. NO, SMOKERS SHOULDN'T GET EXTRA BREAKS! I am a smoker but not being able to just go smoke here and there is actually saving me money. If you are fortunate enough to get hired for a job, then do your job... You shouldn't get paid for a bad habit you may or may not be trying to kick!

funny

Understandable. Yet, by law, employees are required to take two fifteen minute breaks with a 31 minute lunch break. That’s on them to follow. Good luck

Why would you offer more breaks for smokers? Isn’t there a law implemented regulating break times that are required for a certainty n amount of work time? If you give more time to smokers, it does seem that you are sensitive to their needs. This would be a good thing, if it did not scream that the others are not important AT ALL. Stay with the guidelines the LAW had provided.
