PM work is like ordering chicken at a restaurant. It’s fine and might be prepared in a surprising way occasionally, but you’re always going to be looking at what other people ordered and jealous of their meal
PM me op - Project Manager here in Innovation at a major financial institution. *disclaimer - I’m not going to give you sunshine and rainbows feedback
PM is considered a back office role and gets treated accordingly (especially in agile Dec environment). If you want to go into innovation you would have more $ upside and interesting work in a product management role.
It’s doable - innovation roles require strong generalist skills and similar to product owner roles in agile the development isn’t you core responsibility, but you need to at least understand the architecture to a degree.
I’ve done both roles but it was from an innovation lab environment where if a certain product experiment or launch goes well enough you keep holding those reigns for 6-12mths at which time other opportunities should be presenting themselves
If pay is low six figures that’s fine, wouldn’t be much different from Senior at PwC. Like the idea of working in an innovation role, but no idea where PM will take me. Considering B-School later on, would likely score highly on GMAT
Do you mean product?
Nope, project
