Last several weddings I’ve been to haven’t had a wedding cake at all, just dessert bar. I think a lot of people think the cake is overrated, overpriced, and usually not as good as having a selection of desserts.
No cake! Taking my present back......
Absolutely skip one! Most people do a cake as the dessert anyway…

Pro tip: just use Costco sheet cake. If you are wanting to display something the cheap option nowadays is go with a fake cake (as in cardboard with icing on it) and have there be one real slice to cut.
And Costco sheet cake is really good. Guests won’t know the difference.

Oh just realized you were asking about doing both. Just one dessert is fine. You def don’t need to do both, the dessert can be whatever y’all want it to be.
For example my cousins had breakfast pizza as their food (I know it sounds weird but was really good) so their “wedding cake” was a stack of pancakes to go along with the breakfast food theme.
And really it is YOUR wedding. Do whatever you want. There is no “right” way to get married.
Ah that actually is a great tip!! Unfortunately we are not getting married in the US
you do not need both. If the caterung package include dessert just ask them to substitute
Thanks all! That’s was I was thinking and wanted to make sure it isn’t a crazy thought!
We did a dessert bar and had a personal cake that was just for us.
