D2 - depends on the shop you go to. If the firm is made up of entirely ex-bankers, it’s likely that there will be a misalignment between your skills and their expectations. However, there are plenty of shops that regularly / exclusively hire consultants and understand what they bring to the table and what needs to be taught
Going into PE is pretty tough without investment banking experience. My fiancé did Deloitte, IB for 2 years, now in PE on his second. One of his co workers came directly from consulting and is getting let go (no modeling experience or deep understanding of what it takes to buy/sell companies and manage portcos). Just FYI!
It can’t hurt to interview if it’s something you think you might enjoy. I’d recommend being extremely thoughtful during the process about whether or not the people at this fund are people you want to surround yourself with / work for. PE firms are incredibly small compared to major consulting firms and culture will be the difference between feeling like the job is 1) an adrenaline-rush competition sport and and 2) a meat grinder that kills juniors and mid levels without a care in the world because of how much they’re paid

@D1 - I truly love consulting but can’t imagine staying till partner. I’d like to go to bschool eventually. No specific reason yet other than for the network and great feedback I’ve gotten from mentors about their experiences. Would always consider switching to a FANG for the right role.
@BCG1 - I appreciate the perspective, seems like a lot of ex-consultants at this shop and I’ll definitely admit my modeling skills aren’t the best simply because my engagements haven’t needed them tremendously yet.
@PEY1 - I wasn’t really looking. Currently in SC&O being pursued for the latter.
You’d certainly learn a lot either way, but the answer to whether or not it’s worth it can be very different depending on the above
