I agree with SR1. At the very least, wait a few months for P.S to figure out its identity. We didn't even finish establishing ourselves as SapientRazorfish by the time they decided to rename the company Publicis.Sapient and merge with Sapient Consulting. Let me put it to you this way, I've been at this company for 2 years and no longer know how to describe what we do, what we value, or the name of our company.
Today was my last day after five years. I’m so sad to see what it’s turned into and hope for the sake of those still
there that it balances out soon. So much top talent leaving and not having a clear direction or future made me decide to leave.
Don’t do it. It’s a very tumultuous time. Lots of layoffs. Lots of rudderless change. I’ve been here a while, and even I’m scared for my job security.
Also, creative is at the very bottom of the pecking order. At least for most offices. New York might be a slightly different story
Publicis Groupe puts creative at the bottom priority-wise. Even more so at RF, which is sorta turning into a website building, semi-sorta consultancy. Not a great option if you want to do campaign type work
I got my start at Razorfish (back when that’s what it was) as a junior designer and it really helped me. I learned a shit ton about digital design and worked under some really talented people. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s what it once was.
Search through Adweek archives and try to make sense of just the name changes. Let alone the layoffs, exec shuffling, mergers, different mission statements and holding company financial shenanigans.
Ive only freelanced there, but its ALWAYS a complete mess, with nobody (creatives least of all, like everyone here says) knowing whats going on. If they want to hire you, its because they just laid some people off and theyve determined youll be cheaper. Its sad but almost certainly true.
I worked there for years and left for better pastures. If this is your only job offer (it’s been a minute since graduation), there are opportunities to be had there. But if you have opportunities with other shops that are consistently putting out solid creative work, I wouldn’t default to SR. If you have more specific questions (like about a particular office) feel free to PM me
@CD1 how do I PM you tho?
It really depends on what you’re doing. My team does lots of campaign creative all the time and creative is a leading part of the account.
But I think we’re the outlier
Which account/office?
SR1 looking at Atlanta
I think you can find better opportunities than Sapient Atlanta.
How about for Experience Design? It used to be awesome for UX. Still the case?
Really depends where and what account.
Sometimes there’s a PM feature on this app, sometimes there’s not. It’s weird. Try emailing me here: fishbowlthrowaway2@gmail.com
What office are you looking at? Makes a big difference
There are some great things going on there, especially with Second Story. Take the interviews, ask about the work and the culture, and trust your gut. It’s a hard time to join because we are in major flux (again), but honestly I feel like every decent company is going to be in a lot of flux pretty much forever now.
