Nothing wrong with someone caring/supporting you, but if it's at the point of people using the "work husband/wife" term for it, it has probably gone a bit farther than it should have.
Anyone that uses that term is strange
Feels like an odd term to me. There are plenty of other terms you can use that don't have the same connotation. Imagine Venus and Serena Williams calling each other their work wife because they played doubles and trained together for several years. Seems odd because the connotation of wife/husband means more than just we work closely together.
They are sisters why would they even think to use that term
What if they are the same gender? (And straight)
Work mom, work dad, work spouse - it’s all very weird to me but kinda funny. I just call everyone my co worker.
Check out the book "Every Woman Needs a Wife" by Naleighna Kai where he explores the concept of a wife's role in a relationship, focusing on the division of labor and responsibilities within a household. While I don't recommend a 'work wife', I think there is a valid argument to be made that everyone, man or woman, does better when we have someone supporting/helping/ there for us.
Oh well
Fine unless it
- bothers actual spouse or
- makes work spouse uncomfortable with that term
- if only one work spouse wants a romantic relationship
#3 is never expressed overtly. That's the whole problem with the situation. Put it in simple terms. A wife and husband relationship assumes intimacy so don't throw it around lightly. Funny how "work boyfriend/girlfriend" would not go over so well, would it? Because that would easily open up infidelity assumptions. If you have enough time at work to develop deep personal relationships you don't have enough work to do. If I need to confide in another woman, it's time to leave my wife. This is all about making excuses. Being emotionally available for someone outside your marriage is a bunch of bull. Cut bait and move on.
