Hi there, I have 3.5 YOE working for NHS Finance. I applied to Deloitte Risk Advisory, Public Sector (London, UK) and was successful. Waiting to hear back with package offer but it’s been over 2 weeks - was told they may offer M2 grade, any ideas what this is?
I’m also interviewing for Senior consultant role also at Deloitte. How much would this typically pay?
Torn whether to stay within NHS as I will be getting an internal promotion or move to Deloitte.

Be prepared for minimal annual increases as well. Not to mention the politics! Left industry to go back to consulting due to this.
I agree that the work can be slow and the salary most likely not as lucrative, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve positioned a provider for performance improvement only to see the execution of a well-designed initiative fall completely flat due to poor management and leadership. Would be nice to take ownership and control of the an operation and know how to appropriately take advantage of the hundreds of hours we put into these projects trying to set our clients up for success. Also, eliminating travel would be an incredible change of pace.
director, and you’re right that it’ll be hard to move up. next level would be C suite or VP (if they have such a role). some orgs have “senior director” titles which might allow them to give you a raise
VP or Sr. Director level is akin to SM. Be prepared to have initiatives take 4x longer in Industry. What consultants accomplish in 1month takes 4 months. And that is probably a rosy picture.
SD1 is correct. I moved from consulting to payer and the pay and benefits are subpar. Looking at joining a startup or boutique firm by end of Q1.
Just go in white-eyed about the expectations and the speed of change. Lots of people who have been with my company for 20 plus years have 0 initiative to improve or move up or move out. Kinda frustrating.
Yeah. If you’re SM1 you’d probably make Director no problem could try and push for a Sr Director role. If you’re a SM3+ you could probably ask for Sr Director/AVP role. If the provider is small enough you maybe able to pull off a VP role.
Also be prepared to move around every 4ish years to get that promotion to SVP/EVP.
Super helpful. Thank you!
Here are a few other things to think about.
1. Industry roles are usually very tech heavy. Even my VP codes with over 30 years of experience
2. Growth is hard and lots of political BS unless you are in so called ‘Right Place Right Time’
3. Depending on the size of the org have to wear many hats.
4. It could be a hit or miss with leadership. Either they are extremely smart or they are a**holes.
5. I would say on the annual increases it’s not as bad. If you are rated exceptionally year to year you should be able to get 10% if promoted even more.
6. If company is pre ipo ESPP will be a part of package.
Hope these are helpful
