Tips for dealing with a very difficult and passive aggressive partner? I don’t feel like any form of upward feedback is going to be well received. I just bite my lip and am using this to vent. But man is this person unnecessarily condescending.

People don’t change (in this context). I think the options are (1) become the partner’s favorite and get special treatment, (2) find a coping mechanism so it doesn’t emotionally impact you as much, or (3) escape the partner by filling your plate with other work. (2) is easiest, (3) can take some time, (1) is gross and rare and usually not worth pursuing with a truly difficult person.

Detachment or something like it. Unless I’m getting a negative eval or they are going to come for my job, there’s technically no consequences to them being like that to me, so I have no obligation to respond to it the way I would if someone I cared about mistreated me. (This strategy is finite, I am learning. One can only be that detached from their job for so long before it wears on you.)

Do you think that deep down (in their heart of hearts, in their personal life when no one is around) they’re still the same rat batard? Or just playing one because they think that’s what they’re supposed to do to manage associates?

Conversely, is “associate dealing with jag-off boss” who you truly are? Or is it just a role you play in exchange for money? If you play it as a role, it’s a lot harder to take it personally (and then becomes funny).

Try to work with them less. Pretend whatever crazy sh*t didn't just happen and keep it pushin. Stay focused on the work. These people are not well, but generally if you just keep moving matters forward your job will survive and that has to be our priority.

Hi Fishes,

I am looking for the job change in ServiceNow profile and having a experience of 4+ yrs.

Currently I am trying to create network in linked in and naukari but still not getting the response from some companies like JP Morgan or mindtree etc.

Can u help me to understand what is the best way to create a network to some major companies.

I know applying directly to the company site mostly doesn't have any benefit or will take long time to schedule the interview.

I recently joined citi. I have been given choice for to select superannuation as 13% of BS or 12500/- monthly or zero.

This is one time selection and not reversible.

I am already investing 1.5 lakh in 80C through SIP and EPF.

I need more detail about superannuation and is it beneficial or not?

Also is there any retirement age in IT field 🤔 (or in citi)?

Young solo here w/ a question about fees: 1. A local solo criminal defense attorney has offered to pay me to go and make appearances before the Court on some of her cases to make announcements. (For example, “ready when reached”). I’m open to doing this and this attorney is asking what my fee would be? Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on what a reasonable fee would be to do something like this? Hourly? Flat Fee? 2. I want to ensure this is ethical. I don’t see an issue with this. Thoughts?

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

Going through a lot of mixed emotions. Almost feels like my anxiety levels are on the rise. I used to think I can manage stress very well, but that belief seems to be fading away. I am diabetic as well and don’t see much point of working hard as I have in all my life so far... and just feel like living alone and going somewhere in the darkness. Anyone else facing similar issues?

Hi there,

Just joined S&C from 8 YOE in industry. Joined as M1, but was also a manager in former industry role. How soon is reasonable to be thinking about promotion Senior Manager? What kind of salary increase comes with this promotion?

Also, I negotiated current salary when the offer came 5 months ago now, not taking into account high increases in inflation. Do salaries get adjusted for inflation? And if so, when?

Random partner asked a litigation-related question to a partner I frequently work with (i’m a transactional associate). My partner cc’d me and said for me to briefly look. Asked the library. They got me a great case. Sent it back. Now the random partner is asking for more cases in another circuit.

I’m a 4th year and I’ve never billed contemporaneously for even a one full week. I guess I’d just rather have one day of torture recording all my hours at the end of the month than that extra little torture daily. I’m wondering how common or rare this is in BigLaw. Thoughts?

About to finish my first year. I’m a specialist. Only going to hit 65% of my hours (took a 4 week vacation cause of wedding/hm).

I never say no to work and i have fantastic reviews, and the head of my practice (with whom I work a lot for) has great things to say about me.

I’ve been fully utilized starting ~June, but first few months were slow. Am i fine?!

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons.
