Write it out with pen and paper. I realize that's not feasible every single time, but do it when you can. There are tons of studies that show how much it aids with recalling information.
i second this. i make written notes with diff colors, and make my own drawings and charts where applicable. i make my own flashcards. etc.
i also make sure i get 9ish hours of sleep or else im a wreck.
Writing it out is a good tip stated above. I would add putting the learning immediately into practice as well. For example, if you're studying for a technical certification - use trials and other free resources to practice and play and make mistakes. Only 10% of learning is structured.
Another vote here for writing it out.
If you’re in a meeting or class, it really doesn’t matter how you take notes. Write them down or type them.
After that, as soon as you can, write down what you learned or need to remember. Don’t transcribe. Organize the info and use words that work for you.
When you synthesize the information, that’s when it really sticks.
When you're writing for study use the Cornell notes system, so you can out the main content of an idea in the centre & the subject specific hints in the left column, that way you can cover the main content of your notes & try to remind yourself of whats under the cover as a revision method.
I find covering the page after doing this with blank post-it notes helps so when you come back to the materials in a few days or a week later youre only looking at the hints youve left yourself & can uncover the specific content of the notes if you need a reminder.
After a while you'll only need to see the hints of the subject to remember whats underneath the blank post-its.
You could also use AI to help you study, would recommend Copilot above GPT for intensive subjects.
If the learning is practical based you could ask the AI to devise a mock test for you (where you list parameters of what you're studying) & it will act like an engaging tutor.
I struggle with highlighting notes because when I actually read something that interest me I think everything is good so end up highlighting the hole page
Try to explain it or teach it to someone who knows nothing about it (a family member or close friend), that’s when I find that it clicks and I can recall more of what I learned. Someone you can be vulnerable with so when you get to a part that stumps you, you can go back and dive into that area more.
Rising Star
It takes me a couple of times, so I take a lot of notes.
Repetition could be your friend. If you’re reading something important go over it a couple of times. If you’re watching like a documentary or a lecture series, maybe let it play a time or two in the background so you start to retain information.
