My base loc is Bengaluru, but currently I am not mandatorily required to work from office, and have been working from home since I joined Deloitte in July. Should I talk to my manager and go back to my hometown Kolkata and work from there? Staying in PG all day and working from here is not quite feasible for me. Suggest pls. Deloitte India

FDD isn’t the group for you if you’re so averse to travel. Yes, it’s been nonexistent due to Covid, but to suggest it will be this way forever is incorrect and misleading.
We’re largely remote now. Travel is slowly coming back but still limited and tbd what it looks like in the future. My past few deals we talked about traveling for meetings but ultimately reverted to zoom. Pre covid it varied a lot deal to deal - at least in my office we almost always traveled a few days a month for management meetings but rarely anywhere near 40%. Personally think travel will come back more than being in the office 5 days a week. If you want an EY referral HMU
Thanks so much! Exactly the info I was looking for
When y’all talking about travelling do you mean out of town? Or just to the client site within the city?
For me, I did the latter maybe one day every other week. Very rarely travel out of town.
Yeah I’m in FDD. In a medium market too. Honestly I’d love to travel (which is a clear sign I never actually do it for work because I’m not tired of it yet lol).
I’m transferring to NYC so I hope I get to travel to targets.
I’ve only been here for 2 years tho, so barely experienced pre covid
There’s very few advisory jobs that don’t require travel (pre covid) it’s part of the gig. For me it’s one of it not the best perk. Getting to travel, live and eat on someone else’s dime, can’t beat that. To each their own though, if you don’t like it, the jobs prob not for you.
Mind explaining the travel expenses policy you guys had in place ? Or does it vary by team? I just joined FDD and am excited about traveling on the company’s dime. My past audit clients were pretty tight on the budget; and the lunch expenses I got were subway... RIP
Even before COVID travel was less than it used to be. I started when a data room was a physical room at a lawyers office with boxes of files. Now it is online and you can access from anywhere. Audit work papers were hard copy only. Now you can review online work papers in a local office. I used to travel a week at a time on deals but that was greatly reduced. With auctions all day management meetings are at best now a two hour phone call. Management presentations still talk half a day but clients don’t ask us to attend as much of them anymore. Honestly traveling for a day or two just isn’t worth the hassle.
FDD really don’t travel that much….
FDD does not travel out of town 40%, even prior to COVID. I would say prior to Covid 1-2 nights out of town a month. I think it will be even less now given we are able to diligence remotely. I would say if travel is the hold up for joining - it shouldn’t be the reason to not join.
