For me it was when I started to openly talk about my joy for writing. No fancy degree or big break, just years of writing for fun that eventually turned into a career when a neighbor and I got to talking about a book I wrote. Found out he worked in media, asked me to write some scripts, and the rest is history. Made the switch from insurance sales to writing at the age of 48.
That’s such an inspiring shift—and a great reminder that it’s never too late to pivot into what you love. I really admire that you kept writing for the joy of it and let that passion lead the way. Stories like yours make me feel better about taking breaks and reconnecting with what actually fuels me.
Talking with somebody I now look back on as a mentor. They encouraged me to keep an open mind, try different things. At the time, I had a very rigid view of everything, so that really made me think twice about things I would have passed on.
That kind of guidance is so valuable—especially when it challenges the way you see your path. Sometimes just one conversation like that can shift your whole mindset and open doors you didn’t even know were there. Sounds like a quiet but powerful turning point.
