So far I haven’t seen anything that is ready for prime time. Westlaw Precision gives me bad answers to research questions, and does just an OK job picking things out of document sets. Claude does a good job of drawing on outside sources to pull up more general knowledge (e.g., draft cross exam questions for a medical expert on substantive topics).
I have colleagues who have started using Harvey and Anna. They seem to like it but I don’t have specifics on it yet.
Overall it’s sort of Wild West out there.
As a general concept, it seems like AI can be valuable because of its iterative functionality. You can revise something 5 times in 30 minutes when it would take a junior associate 2 days. But you have to get in there yourself to make it right.
Rising Star
It can be useful to give you the term of art you need to do your own research. It can be useful to assess your own written clarity/tone. It can also be somewhat useful in creating templates from finished work product.
But I don’t trust its legal judgment. It frequently conflates different topics or pulls up irrelevant material.
But, GDPR (or other similar topics that have been written about to death) it can do a very good job.
Rising Star
Nuanced legal concepts it can bork, especially if they’re not widely discussed.
A fun game is to take redlines (and after anonymizing the content) ask AI Tool #1 to assess.
Then take that assessment and give it to AI Tool #2 and ask whether it agrees.
I use the one that makes stuff up. That’s my favorite.
Pro
Copilot is ok for summarizing records, depo transcripts, etc. As others have said, I haven't found a product that's quite there yet, although of course AI in the workplace is a pretty new thing.
I do have concerns about all the work product and confidential info thats being uploaded to AI...
