Clients here in the Middle East are generally very immature and incompetence is high. This is both good and bad really. It’s good because its easy to add value and make a big difference to how they operate, but it’s clearly bad because getting things done takes a long time, data is often non existent and politics is rife!
Travel - expect to spend plenty of time in Saudi Arabia, the vast majority of consulting spend in the region is in Saudi. However, if you’re a non Arabic speaker, you may dodge this more often than Arabic speakers for obvious reasons (I’ve spent very little time there). I haven’t heard of many projects traveling outside of the Middle East.
Work hours - depends on the project and client but from reading this app, I’d say it’s generally more chilled than the US. I’d say the average finish time would be 7pm...
Comp at manager at PwC is approx 25-35k aed per month (7-10k USD) tax free. I believe SM would be at least 40-60k aed range (11-16k USD).
Dubai is an expensive city, but you do get a lot for your money. You can get some amazing apartments or villas for a fraction of the price you would pay elsewhere. Dubai as a city is very westernized as it’s made up of 90% expats, it’s not as free and liberal as somewhere like California, but it’s definitely not as ultra conservative as some newspapers may make you believe!
Happy to expand on any areas of interest, but hope this helps a little.
Thanks a lot, this is great insight. I am ex deloitte, ex IBM from London. Moved to Dubai to set up a tech start up but Covid hit us hard. Looking to get back into consulting in this region. Would you be open to a chat on zoom or a quick coffee? It would be great to meet other consultants and grow my network here.
