Is change management a skill set used by industry? I want to position myself to have options in a few years, but I just don't see that as being an FTE function.
Attorneys with the firm often send firm-wide emails advising of in house openings with a corporate client, and solicit recommendations or resumes of qualified candidates. Usually the client contact is a hiring manager for the position. How do I show interest without completely shooting myself in the foot? While I ultimately do want to exit the firm, I also don’t want to be openly broadcasting my intent to leave by telling the firm attorney(s) that I’m interested. Thoughts?
When interviewing for a strategy role without much prior experience, would you be honest and just say that? I feel like the interviewers will see right through my fabrications
Those who have evaluated switches from Consulting to Startups - any advice? Was offered a Bus Ops Assc. role at a Series A FinTech which is where I desire to take my career. Main item I am having trouble disaggregating is, by taking this role am I potentially taking a step back (likely promo Manager next year)? In one sense, I feel I could develop more in the startup role though moving to a IC role / 50k less salary if promo’d (w/ equity to be fair) doesn’t feel awesome. Lmk thoughts! Thanks.
I have a standing offer with Accenture (AFS). Due to coronavirus, the recruiter told me they are pausing staffing of external people like myself while they take care of internal people on the bench. My recruiter said he would touch base monthly during covid, but usually I’m the one to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since mid March, so should I reach out? I totally understand if they’re still in the same position as before and nothing changed since mid March in terms of hiring.
I would be joining IBM as a project manager. I wanted to move again to technical role in some time. Please share your experiences how easy is it to move. I want to move to Data engineering side. Your response would be appreciated 🙏🙏
What are the exit opportunities for big 4 M&A tax? Any chances to go to investment bank M&A or retiring as a big four partner is the best scenario?
Fellow Fishes - How did you all deal with failure in your career. I was ambitious and smart. I was in IBM and considered to be one of the best of my class. I was fired and haven’t really found my way. I don’t know what to do anymore. 3 years after the fact, I am still at an entry level position. I hate myself for letting things get this bad but I don’t know how to get out of this perpetual cycle. I tried working my ass off but have not been able to shake off that unfortunate past.
I’m a new associate at BCG - started two weeks ago and I have no how idea if im doing well or not. I did a first informal feedback session last week and they told me I need to improve on slide making. Is this normal? I have a 6 months probation and I want to make sure I’m in a good position to pass. Am I being too nervous too soon?
Is it worth it to get a professional certification like SHRM/PHR? Not many of my colleagues have one and it’s not a requirement for my role, but I’m curious if it’s worth it in the long run
Does anyone have a standing desk mat they recommend? I have a large L desk that is convertable and looking for one thst is comfortable to stand on but could also have a chair role over it for when I'm sitting
I often see posts about people getting 350K exit or 450K or more in FAANG. Are those strategy folks from Big 4 or are there cyber folks too getting these exits ? I am making close to 200k as M3 in cyber . Not able to anything that would pay more than this in non-consulting ? What roles should I target ?
Hiring account roles from AE to Director. HCP and DTC offerings (including tv). DM me for more info.
Sales and use tax or SALT transaction tax practices hiring senior associates? Preferably New England area.
What trainings should I do in the Accenture tool if I want to get a bizops/strategy role at faang or startups?
In these times, if your referral bonus is $1k or less for seasonal employees you are asking for: 1. Employees who put in work to refer people that end up negotiating a part time option don't work on referring anyone else. 2. If the potential new hire gets an offer, employees have 0 incentive to convince them to accept it. This can even lead to them giving negotiation tips which get the new hire a $5-10k higher offer. They may even recommend accepting a diff firm's offer straight up.
Seeking advice on how to choose between a mid tier technical accounting advisory offer and Big 4 audit. Worked in audit at a local firm and wanted a bigger platform. Would love to switch to advisory to be more well rounded. Mid tier advisory offers higher salary but also thinking big 4 has a better platform and maybe better exit opportunities in the long run? Insights please.
HYP grad with summa, MBB, 750+ GMAT, but weak extracurriculars - how likely is one of HSW?
Somewhat of a recent hire - how hard is it to transfer into a different practice in consulting? Will I get fired for asking?
Share your experience on last month at your job before exit. What are some things to do?
Would anyone recommend any recruiters or head hunters you have used for exit opportunities
Director: "I want you to play the director role for today. Should be fun. What do you think?" Me: "sure" 🤓🔫
Need recommendations - Best electric standing desk under $400? And ergonomic chair to go with it?
MBB Experienced Hire 🐠 - did you have strategy experience when you applied to MBB? I have some Tech, and M&A experience. Do you think I can be a good candidate (applying at Assoc/Consultant level).
How much is per hour rate of big data architect in DC/ NJ area. Have 14 YOE and want to move from consulting into contracting. Other than employment taxes and health insurance what are other expense
Building off a thread from a few days ago on how long you waited to consultant an RE. If I am under 35 and have not been trying for 12 months, do I need to spin it to my doctor like I have? It seems bad to not give my doc the real info but I also don’t want to be turned away and I think I’ve heard you have to tell them it’s been 12 mo to get insurance to cover it. Any insight?
Some good looking people out traveling for Thanksgiving ... don’t see such crowd during regular M-T travel.
I think my firm is going to be moving towards global flexibility regarding work from home. They won't force us to live in certain cities with offices. Where in the US is there a beach or beach town that gets all four seasons? Is such a thing possible? I love the ocean, but Fall is my favorite season.
This probably looked like a good idea when one of Bernie's staffers plugged it into a spreadsheet as if it was an 8th grade math problem with one variable. Trouble is it's not an 8th grade math problem. Does anyone seriously think Elon Musk would stay in the country and happily hand over 40% of his total wealth to fund tax collection shortfalls caused by lockdowns that he was a vocal opponent of? Apparently Bernie and AOC think so. https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahhansen/2020/08/11/bernie-sanders-renews-call-for-a-billionaire-tax-this-time-to-fund-medicare-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic/
I'm considering switching from Public Accounting (tax) to industry as a Financial Analyst - is this feasible? A lot of job postings for Financial Analyst positions ask for knowledge of ERP system, SQL and even coding which I know nothing about. Is it that something that can be learn on the job or should I invest in taking some courses before applying for jobs? How different are these two career paths?
Peeps working in London, is £43K a livable salary there? Thinking of a potential transfer from the US but looks like the starting salary I’ll get is £43K, which is a pay cut from the US market.
Just got invited to take the internal revenue agent assessment for an IRS revenue agent position I applied for, does anyone have any insight as to what to expect?
