What are the key differences between a mid level and senior strategist other than years of experience? Offered a role and want to understand what to expect as a senior strat

this likely changes at every agency but i would ask the hiring manager if they have a breakout of R&Rs across each level so you can understand what you need to do in your role and what you need to do as you move up and also lets you be aware of where you may need help

Independence. I would expect to only minimally supervise you and have you be an effective partner to account, client, and creative as well as other agencies. Management skills are much more individual. I wouldn’t force you to manage others if you’d rather be an individual contributor.

I think the big differences day-to-day would be 1) how many projects you're on at once 2) your client interactions 3) managing juniors

like

3) my current weakness, managing folks is a distinct skill

Independence. Ability to influence. Leadership (different than management). Flexibility/range across assignment types

Attorneys with the firm often send firm-wide emails advising of in house openings with a corporate client, and solicit recommendations or resumes of qualified candidates. Usually the client contact is a hiring manager for the position. How do I show interest without completely shooting myself in the foot? While I ultimately do want to exit the firm, I also don’t want to be openly broadcasting my intent to leave by telling the firm attorney(s) that I’m interested. Thoughts?

Those who have evaluated switches from Consulting to Startups - any advice? Was offered a Bus Ops Assc. role at a Series A FinTech which is where I desire to take my career. Main item I am having trouble disaggregating is, by taking this role am I potentially taking a step back (likely promo Manager next year)? In one sense, I feel I could develop more in the startup role though moving to a IC role / 50k less salary if promo’d (w/ equity to be fair) doesn’t feel awesome. Lmk thoughts! Thanks.

I have a standing offer with Accenture (AFS). Due to coronavirus, the recruiter told me they are pausing staffing of external people like myself while they take care of internal people on the bench. My recruiter said he would touch base monthly during covid, but usually I’m the one to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since mid March, so should I reach out? I totally understand if they’re still in the same position as before and nothing changed since mid March in terms of hiring.

Fellow Fishes - How did you all deal with failure in your career. I was ambitious and smart. I was in IBM and considered to be one of the best of my class. I was fired and haven’t really found my way. I don’t know what to do anymore. 3 years after the fact, I am still at an entry level position. I hate myself for letting things get this bad but I don’t know how to get out of this perpetual cycle. I tried working my ass off but have not been able to shake off that unfortunate past.

I did a first informal feedback session last week and they told me I need to improve on slide making. Is this normal? In these times, if your referral bonus is $1k or less for seasonal employees you are asking for: 1. Employees who put in work to refer people that end up negotiating a part time option don't work on referring anyone else. 2. If the potential new hire gets an offer, employees have 0 incentive to convince them to accept it. This can even lead to them giving negotiation tips which get the new hire a $5-10k higher offer. They may even recommend accepting a diff firm's offer straight up.
