Set up your checking account to automatically move a consistent amount of money to savings after you get paid each month so that you don’t even see/touch that money. I started with a small amount when I was younger and have gradually increased it every time I got a raise or new job with higher salary. Always go with the cash back option for your credit card rewards and put it back in savings. Use a tool like Mint to see where you are doing the most of your spending and see where you can start to cut down. Also see if there’s any habitual expenses you can do without (eg $4 daily coffee) and do as a once in awhile treat instead. All of this has worked for me and I am getting ready to buy a house soon! The pay gets better, don’t worry.
I’m addition to everything that was said above, please have a 401k set up. Start contributing the amount needed for the company to match, even if they only start matching after a while.
