I’m personally too nervous to fly. I’ve heard from lots of people about fully booked flights and flight attendants not enforcing mask wearing. I do think every decision is a risk analysis though and if this is something your family needs that you can make it work- choose the airline with the strictest rules, try to get a direct, etc.
No matter what though, you’re not a bad mom!
Thanks ❤️
I was thinking about traveling to see my grandparents in Arizona and as long as WFH is still a thing, we can essentially travel, self quarantine in a hotel for the suggested two weeks then see the family members we would like to see! Then do the same thing when you get back home.
Do it!
I’m in the moderate risk category, so I’m tempted to say go for it. But since you mentioned 2 toddlers, I’d be a bit worried about the flight for them. If you think they’ll be good about not touching everything and are able to wear masks during the flight, maybe it’s okay? I know the free house is tempting, but instead maybe you can find a vacation rental with a pool that’s in driving distance? And maybe do a few long weekend trips over the summer instead of a long 2 week trip?
Also, if you do shorter, long weekend trips, use some PTO and CHECK OUT. I’m sure you need a few days to unplug too ❤️ (rather than plan to WFH for 2 weeks in Naples)
We had a big parents meeting with our preschool and one of the moms is a pediatrician and another is an ER nurse, they both stated that flying no matter the amount of people on there is considered high risk because the virus stays in the air for at least 3 hours so even if your flight is ok, previous flights needed to be considered. As a result, we agreed that anyone taking a flight would have to self quarantine with their family for 2 weeks at least before sending kiddo back to school. Just a thought to consider
I don’t know where you’re coming from, but driving is an option. We’re not normally road trip types but decided to do a 10-hour drive for a vacation this year. I know others that have done the same- 12 and 13 hour drives for them! But if you’re going for 2 weeks it’s not as intense.
Oh yeah that’s too far!
Emily oster has a great post on Covid and decision- making w kids
I would drive. Drive a ton at night while they sleep. I’ve done this with toddlers. It’s horrible but Florida is the best!
Thanks. Yes we are thinking of doing the drive now!
There is no way in hell I’d go to Florida right now
Yeah I think we will make a call closer to when we were planning to leave (about 4 weeks from now) to see how the cases are looking. But my thought is, if we are driving and staying in an empty house it’s the same thing as us staying in our house in Chicago when the peaks were still way worse. We aren’t at more risk in our house in Chicago vs a different house together in Florida. That house just has an awesome pool for the kids to enjoy for a few weeks...
On the other hand, I worry I’m being a bad mom and it may not be smart? Would love to hear opinions or experiences from other mammas! Thanks!
Well that escalated quickly...just an update that we are not going to Florida now! Staycation here we come!
