2 kids under 3. Very very very pro daycare:
- kids get social time with peers
- they have lots more toys there
- daycare cost covers all meals
- no one in my house while I WFH
- no one in my house if I take a random day off
- cheaper (even with 2 kids)
- I don’t have the mental load of managing another employee
- more checks and balances on issues at daycare (I’m not on an island if problems arise)
Thank you so much!
1 kid: very very pro nanny. We had one from birth to 7 and then one 7-11. The latter one is like a big sister and they still spend a week together every summer.
- no rushing to pick up
- sick day coverage (even weekend coverage during a family emergency)
- she did the laundry and grocery shopping and errands
- kid got to go to activities she liked
- once in preschool/school kid could start 1/2 day and transition to longer days but not have to do aftercare, so shorter days
- fed kid dinner and prepped ours so when we got home we had time to play (often she would have given bath too)
- later years she drove to sports and such
- she was in tune with school and other Nannies (hanging on playground after school/and arranging play dates) so I got lots of info on what was going on with school and classmates and any drama
- it was like having a wife! A partner helping us raise a great kid!
This is awesome! Thanks so much
Well I can’t afford a nanny so daycare it is
Emily Oster (brilliant economist who crunches the data on all things pregnancy / babies) says that 1.5 is the ideal age to start day care (eg before then, they don’t reap the benefits as much)
We went with the au pair program and heading into our 4th year. It was incredible during the pandemic as we had a group of families with au pairs and rotating hours throughout the week with 5-7 kids.
We also do all of our activities, such as music, swim, YMCA classes during the week, so that we have flexibility on the weekend.
If anyone is interested, then DM and I will send you more information.
