Sapphire Reserve / Preferred has rental protection benefits. I’m not sure if the Corp Amex would cover personal travel...I’d call Amex
Dunno what your firms official policy is, but I use it for protection benefits all the time. Our AMEX as far as I know unfortunately doesn’t cover rentals, but it does cover trains, buses, and planes so all those are always booked using Corp CC for personal use
Corp Amex is just 1 point for travel while CSR is 3...
Our protection is through our rate, not our card. Imagine yours may be the same and you'd be fine using CSR.
Having been in an accident that totaled a rental car, they will ask a lot of questions around if you were on corporate travel and also look at your concur to verify. In the event you did have an accident it likely won’t be covered.
PSA: there is no credit card car rental protection which is sufficient by itself! These cover the car only. They don't cover liability (e.g. Damage you cause to another car, building, or human). You are taking a tremendous risk driving without real car insurance. For personal travel, this means your personal policy, a non-driver policy, or taking insurance through the rental co.
Auto rental companies only cover the bare minimum on liability (20-30k). Pretty easy to burn through that if you hit someone. Please don't risk your financial future.
Also, what P1 said. Your company's insurance covers everything for business trips. They cover nothing for personal trips, regardless of the rate or card used. In assigning liability, the court will look at the actually purpose of the trip.
Well..BCG1 now I’m worried. Already have the car, don’t have personal auto insurance. Any steps I can take to protect myself at this point? I already have the car. Will be returning it 1/2.
Our LDW covers us during personal trips, including those using points. Whether the LDW is sufficient is a different discussion as I believe that doesn't cover personal injuries.
A1: granted I haven't looked at it in a year or two, but I don't think that's the case. If it is, awesome. When I last looked we're only covered when using the corporate rate if the rental is for work.
Personal amex platnium. If you dont have one, gold or chase perferred
LDW only pertains to the rental vehicle, same as credit card insurance benefits. Only an actual insurance policy covers liability. Rental cos provide the statutory minimum. In CA, that's $15k per person up to $30k per accident. If you sideswipe a new Camry and 2 occupants have a stiff neck, you'll blow through that in an instant. Then they come for your bank accounts...
Even when I was just starting in my career, I had $150/300k liability. Significantly more now. Your normal car insurance should have covered. If you don't have a car, look into non-owner policies or companies like MetroMile.
