DC/Northern VA checking in. For a family of 4, I really think the household income needs to be at least 250k. Homes are expensive. Food is expensive. Going out is expensive. I imagine children are crazy expensive. Plus savings and college funds and vacation. Money matters a lot
MA- at least $250k- 350k
Charlotte, NC - less than $200k is going to be challenging.
DC metro here (MoCo). For a family of 4 to achieve middle class life; gross income needs to be closer to $400k. Much of this factors in ability to save for college, all of life’s expenses in between, and be able to adequately save for retirement so you’re not working into your 70’s which most people won’t even have the possibility of doing as tech/AI continues to eliminate jobs and water down professions, even those that were historically “safe”. If you want a middle class lifestyle in retirement at say 65, plan on having at minimum $6-$8M saved. I know this sounds extreme, but if you do the math, that’s reality.
In Illinois, 125-150 would probably support a family of 4 a cheap lifestyle in a cheap area far away from Chicago.
I think 🤔 of absolutely fair not minimum. This is your living and with the right people....even the scared sales ppl that do not ask questions? Then you only have yourself to blame. No one place is going to remind you of your raise. Ever. I had an interviewee start out by saying things to me like you made mistakes? Why are you here? Lol I'm older so I get it bc I was making way more back in the day, then my values changed, having children. But my brain did not stop working. It was a tactic I would think to be so random but list how every human has felt at some point in their life even during the million times you fall...and get back up. That's was them setting the stage maybe? I just listened I could of said okay so I'm human? But sometimes it's better to let them get what's frustrating them out. N how they are idk how ppl cannot read ppl even small social ques. What I gained from that interview was a few things. One they were tired, exhausted, and losing ppl. Now to be fair that area is good. But once I start work I'll explain or suggest a few things that will work and get ppl and community involved. He tried to get a reaction out of me a few times w odd verbiage. But was 95% straight forward. I'm very literal so kinda the same and I'm a truth teller along w loving ppl the customers truly committed and connected to whatever I choose to do. Not to mention a tiny mishap like my tire half is gone off of my volvo right before my interview....so I had to call w a problem but got there and could of gotten no deal. Negotiating takes small amounts of time and sitting down and creating a plan, exchanges of ideas, and your abilities. I don't question mine. So respectfully I won't negate 100% of my Negotiating until after I see the work vs what's fair and literally add up what you bring into that entity in 30 days , do it again 30 days but raise your sales figure out the problems fix them. Then start negotiating.
But saying what's the minimum how about negotiate your not going above whatever you ask but you will agree on something. If you care or put enough thought into it and how to understand the dynamic of what assumptions do. You can easily do a crappy search or social media, and make an assumption. But for both parties to prosper you must be happy and don't waste their time be upfront and honest w them behind closed doors. Bc you might walk out with 100x more it's all on you to look out for you. But don't expect a handout and be ready to put your money where your mouth is. If you can't then maybe sales isn't your true passion idk
