Definitely means today within the next few hours
Shortly to me means within a couple hours. I sometimes push it a little past that, but I’d definitely think it means within the same day (and usually quite a bit shorter than that).
I would probably say something like “I will get you comments as soon as available” or just be more specific and say “tomorrow” or “over the next few days”
Thanks for the advice, will definitely refrain from using shortly.
Yeah agreed. Shortly is like a little longer than momentarily but means you can expect it right away.
Well apparently, since I’m not a native English speaker, I’ve been using it incorrectly.
What term do you use when saying you’ll get back to someone with revisions of a 50+ page agreement?
In due course/ by the wnd of the week / early next week / in the next couple of days. Just don’t give a set time if you can’t meet it
I have a similar issue with one of the parts I work for. He never gives an exact date, will just say in the next few days or weeks, and then send urgent emails wondering where it is when there was never a due date. I work for 4 different partners and the ones who give me specific deadlines get their work prioritized. I've had to ask this other partner to please provide a specific due date so that I can organize my docket accordingly.
Yeah means within a few hours for sure.
