Action RPGs, Elden ring is just that on steroids
Adventure game or Adventure RPG
While I do think "Action Role Playing Game" (ARPG) would be correct at face value, often times and socially, the genre of ARPGs is kept exclusive to isometric games like Diablo
So if you find a reddit thread "what's your favorite ARPG" it'll likely be filled with Diablo, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, etc. Technically I'd delimitate those as "isometric ARPGs", but not everyone makes the differentiation. For this reason, I think Adventure or Adventure RPG is more inline with what you're looking for.
Case in point: https://www.reddit.com/r/ARPG/comments/hegu10/whats_your_favourite_arpg_right_now/
Horizon, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima are generally considered to be action-adventure games. While they do contain some RPG elements, such as character development and equipment upgrades, they are not typically categorized as pure RPGs. Games like Elden Ring, on the other hand, are often referred to as action RPGs because they place a stronger emphasis on RPG-style gameplay mechanics like character customization and progression, skill trees, and narrative choices.
Sorry. I don’t know that right now
Uncharted series the same
They're action adventure/open world, but more casual than games like elden ring which are brutal when it comes to enemies and their punishing combos. But yes they are still RPGs
They are definitely still RPGs in my opinion. RPGs are when the player plays a titular character or main figure that follows a story path. I love these types of games more than anything
I have a different opinion. Horizon, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima are not considered RPGs. These are action-adventure games with elements of role-playing, where you explore an open world and customize your character to fit your playstyle. My own experience playing these games has been more casual compared to more traditional RPGs like Elden Ring.
No, those games are not RPGs. They are action-adventure games with RPG elements. They focus more on action and storytelling than on character progression and exploration, so they are much more casual than games like Elden Ring. From my own experience, I would classify them as action-adventure games with RPG elements.
They are more accurately classified as Action Adventure games. They have elements of role-playing and customization, but they are not as deep or immersive as a true RPG
