TBWA NY layoffs today.
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

They get a bus to take everyone home and put some clowns on the bus to make everyone feel better

We got to stop at McDonald’s on our bus and they played a movie
The signs could be poor performance reviews, low utilization or simply that you are on the bench. Its like using the axe and making it appear like a scalpel cut. Don’t worry too much because it’s mostly a case of wrong place and wrong time from your perspective.
Was laid off in the middle of the pandemic with a virtual call. Given 2 weeks notice to mail in our laptop and access badges. Severance payout came through a week or so later.
Best thing that happened to me! 🥳🎉
Been through it 2x. One was in person work environment, other remote.
In person- there is a hush in the air on the day - big signs and they will collect people affected one by one, so seeing others collected is a sign. They make them come to a private room (maybe put time on calendar but I just was collected. HR and a leader over you in the meeting). Pretty quick chat about your rights, what you’re getting. Then someone (them or security) walks w you to get your things - collect them all in a box in front of everyone - and they walk you out. Or some version of this. It’s totally awful but only lasts like 30 min or so in my experience.
Remote - just had a meeting w some generic title or no title put on my cal for the next morning or for shortly. I think it just had my manager on it, but either saw HR was added too or that HR also had that time slot blocked off on their cal even though that didn’t show in my meeting invite. Knew it was coming due to budget cuts at employer, but this indicated it was actually happening and today. Random last minute generic meetings that are mysterious are pretty good signs
Btw - can confirm no matter the case, it will be fine! Sometimes just circumstances (neither of these was in consulting industry but others that are more volatile). You will live to see another day and it might even end up in your favor - I’ve gotten better jobs after these experiences and have seen others have that experience too

It's going to be ok
Nah. But the layoffs will be fine.

You also get unemployment.
If you get an email about unexpected changes to health insurance it could mean a lay off is imminent. Especially if occurs in last few days of a month
Just to those laid off. Insurance coverage ends and insurance company emailed about end of benefits before communicated to employee same day
