You know, it's funny, I feel like I'm always contributing to these things every other week. But I don't think I've ever gotten one. Maybe a birthday card or two, but nowhere near what I've contributed. It seems like it's always the same couple of people. For me, my least favorite aspect of workplace culture is the water cooler chat. I don't want to have the same basic conversation about the weather and the weekend for the next 30 years!
Exactly how I feel. I guess you have to give to get but I'd rather just avoid it all together.
It is always that one person that pipes in thinking they're doing something nice trying to organize something like this and putting the burden on everyone.
I agree with you there. I'm glad our company doesn't do this. But we DO have holiday parties, and I feel like that's more of the same. I think we'd all agree that we would rather have the $100-$200 in our pocket over a fancy dinner and awkward work chatter while we all watch the one coworker who always has too much to drink.
Oh see I do enjoy the company party but ours is pretty nice.
As long as its the kind of experience I wouldn't otherwise be able to have I'm for it.
Yes! I also hate the “forced fun” especially when it involves overly cheesy activities. I don’t mind an office happy hour, but when it includes going around the room to share a fun fact about yourself or bad games, I’d rather do anything else
no exactly. Don't waste my time! Lets just cut to the chase.
