Does anyone have any books/media to recommend on being an Asian in the USA / UK (and particularly being East or Southeast Asian)? Have just finished Big Little Man (Alex Tizon) and Severance (Ling Ma) both of which were excellent and captured a lot of complex feelings I hadn’t been able to put into words before...

New C with unrelated background. Got offered a testing role but have no skills/interest in tech. Do I take it to just to get staffed or hold out? Also worried about slow downs/layoffs if benched

So this happened. Since getting laid off I’ve been applying to every job that I believe I’m qualified for. 30 minutes after I hit send I received an email from the company stating that I did not have the right qualifications for the job. No one from the company looked at my portfolio. How do I get past the algorithm and get my work noticed by a real person?

Few people in the world make more money than Mark Reed, John Wren, Michael Roth or Arthur Sadoun. Cant they offer anything to avoid layoffs?

I was laid off fall of last year, allegedly due to covid. I just saw that they re-listed my position and now am devastated and doubting everything about my career. I got good reviews at this and my previous jobs but many are cowardly about giving honest feedback. I took a step down and started a new job recently so I’ll be ok in the long run but the job I was laid off from was my “dream job”. I don’t have strong family/friend support, exacerbated by covid isolation. Any wisdom/advice?

Why do I always see job postings for Pharma and Healthcare agencies? It’s like they can never fill their roles. 24/7 365. If I was in that part of advertising and enjoyed the work, I feel like my job security, promotions and money would be in a much better spot than where I am now, If anyone is looking for a job due to Covid layoffs, might not hurt to suck it up and do pharma work for a bit!

I had a recent manager that I’m thinking about reporting to HR. He called me emotional during a meeting, made a joke about how I was “fired” in front of the client, and in general berated me everyday. I fear the reprecrussions though. What do you think? My most recent director told me that my time is being charged as Sr Consultant, so that’s the expectation for my performance. My title is associate, so two levels below a senior consultant. My last two appraisals have been scored against senior consultant roles, which my company has used to justify why I’m not eligible for a salary increase or promotion to consultant. Is this normal?

When updating your LinkedIn is it good or bad to specify what “type” of consultant you are in the title? For example - Management consultant, Healthcare consultant, Technology consultant (at x firm), etc. Or just put Consultant (at x firm). I’ve seen both ways and am wondering if one is considered more standard than the other?
