What is the absolute earliest one can leave their entry level consultant job? I have been here 7 weeks and it has been nothing but AWFUL. Still on the bench and haven’t learned a single thing.

Oh sweet child

Usually around one year. But sounds like you haven't worked a project yet? I know it sucks that you've been on the bench for so long but I would wait until being staffed at least.

Long bench stints can occur for new hires. Spend the time networking, upskilling, and enjoying the time off. Maybe visit another office. Take the time to get involved in internal initiatives, sales, or ERGS. Great way to meet other people, build promotion case (on the internal side), and do something interesting.

It gets better, and you can help prevent this in the future by making sure your network is robust and skills are valuable.

like

Are you using the time to learn anything or are you sitting there? Take some accountability and use the time.
Tell us why it’s been awful for you.

like

Are you with D?

I would advise being patient. You wouldn’t want to quit without doing any actual consulting. Then you can find out if you like it or not. Quitting while only on the bench is like quitting baseball... while being only on the bench?

like

7 weeks? You should probably give most books more than 7 weeks, and you're thinking of quitting a job? Really?

I would wait until at least 1 year before quitting.

I’m a fifth year associate who is ready to get out of litigation (and private practice altogether). I’ve only ever done professional malpractice (legal, med mal, etc) and feel like those skills will not transfer as well if I had done transactional work. Ideally I would like to transition to something in-house. Any suggestions as to what jobs/industries I could transfer into with only litigation experience?

The KPIs seem achievable and I’ll be in charm school to help build support within that timeline. Most of me thinks a 2 year path under these circumstances realistic but my inner skeptic is jaded. Here is the TLDR LEK doesn’t suck post.

IMHO, our stint in consulting’s purpose is to develop a corporate strategy skillset. Doing CDDs is one of if not the best way to get a ton of reps and variety in our 18 - 24 month tenure.

With options among MBB, T2 incl S&, EYP, and general Big 4 / ACN MC:

- Take MBB (can ask for CDD, overall better comp package)
- Reject B4 MC (won’t get it here)
- T2 (pick other T2s if you want way more strategy projects that aren’t CDD / growth strategy)
