Full-time role with benefits for lower pay. I will always advocate for stability AND any role that comes with benefits in this economy.
You mention it will be with a startup, which means, you’ll likely be expected to roll up your sleeves and do more than outlined, professionally develop within the field and then some, and not have a time limit hanging over your head. Sure, a senior title is great but you can always get that with time. Also, there is a lot to be said for joining and surviving a startup. If or when you leave, you’ll likely be better because of the experience.
Full-time roll stability doesn’t exist anymore. Especially with start-ups. The employee churn is ridiculous
Are the jobs themselves equal in opportunity? What’s the difference in money? 15k? 50k? 100k?
Do you use historically use a lot of benefits? It doesn’t take much to make up the difference, esp if you factor in ~3 mo runway at the end of the contract to find your next role.
Do you see yourself long-term at the full-time job? At least 3-5 years If not, I'd go contract.
If you go contract, be sure to have a contingency plan if they cancel or end early on you.
Yes, of course contract work doesn’t have severance and there are ways of protecting yourself in a contract scenario, such negotiating a kill fee or early cancellation fee.
