Has anyone left healthcare and is now really happy? I’m an MSN, RN with 12 years hospital experience. I’m burned out and tired of making crap pay. I have an opportunity outside of healthcare that would pay more and challenge me in new ways that I haven’t experienced before. It’s a total shift that would really heal my work-life balance, job satisfaction and budget. My only fear is that I would not be using the license and degree that I worked so hard for. Had a baby recently with some health issues which has prompted me to reevaluate my big firm associate life and consider in house. The issue is, I’m thinking of leaving right after/during maternity leave and feel very guilty. Do you think I should explain myself or just say I found another opportunity? Currently maxed Roth 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, and ESPP at 23 YO, should I consider an after-tax conversion? I’ve read about back-door Roths but I’m still far below the income limit as an analyst. Definitely looking into early-ish retirement, should I just invest the rest in a regular brokerage account until I reach the income limit? Am I even allowed to do a conversion? Why would you ever want to rollover your 401K into an IRA? It seems like doing so would essentially prevent you from successfully being able to do a IRA to Backdoor Roth IRA conversion due to the pro-rata rule. Am I missing something? Wouldn’t you always want to just rollover your old 401Ks to your new 401K?
