Wow 16 years. Just shows that no loyalty exists. Seems like you have a case on your hands, but could be a tough battle.
I wish that we had enough strength to come togather and make it as painful for them as it is for us

Don’t panic and document everything.
They’ll likely pay you the standard severance plus a separation bonus in exchange for releasing your rights to take legal action.
Plenty of firms are hiring and paying more for folks with experience so this minor speed bump may ironically be the cherry on top of your 16-year tenure from purely a financial perspective.
Check your employment contract it should say there
Ah bugger, I feel so much for you right now. But here are 2 things I've found:
I was on STD leave for a while in 2013/14 and then parental leave - found out there is some number of days threshold that makes you exempt from CRT (not sure what it is, but worth asking). They basically pull forward your previous rating from the previous year and use that again.
And last year, I wasn't on a PIP but it was clear that I was being counselled out and was rated non-performing even though I'd hit all my metrics (after 14 years of rating in the top 2 tiers). If it's for performance, they don't owe you anything. They are building their case. If you are on a PIP, make sure that the things on that PIP are achievable and measurable, and can't be sabotaged by anyone else.
It still won't help the inevitable from happening, but it will make your case stronger. They've made it clear they want you gone - start prepping now. There's lots of opportunities out of there, start letting people in the market know you're 'thinking of exiting' now.
Good luck OP.
Typically at companies it is 1 months salary for one year of service plus a few months salary to find work. I don't know about big 4
Turns out while I was on leave I still went through the review process. My file was not in any condition to go through a round table review. And it was weird that hen I got back - people act like I’m not even here. My PIP was extended to end of February without anyone talking to me about it. An MD has asked for everything I’ve done for the past 2 months for a snapshot - he has no need to know what I’ve done for other people. It’s imminent!
Thank you - I appreciate your response and agree w your feedback.
I should have prefaced the lawsuit - my present intention is removing the stigma of depression and mental health issues. It’s an epidemic and we lose lives daily to suicide because of it. I am changing that. 😊
I feel that being put on PIP after 16 years is very odd and surprising. Please do share what led to it?
ah OK, I misunderstood that part.
But ya, at this point, you would need to get out and sell. It's not supposed to be up or out, but it's up or out.
