What is your goal take home every year? If your career goes how you want it to? I want to bring home around 3-5 million per year in a perfect world. I wish more minority attorneys would be upfront about what their bringing home so people knew what was possible.

Wow. I guess I need to up my game and aspirations. 😂 I genuinely would be happy taking home, after taxes, $500k. That would give me more than enough to play with annually, save, and retire early on. My retirement life isn’t going to be lavish and that’s my biggest concern.

likefunny

Honestly? Same. Especially if my spouse and I could get that with jobs that don’t suck our souls. We don’t have kids, we’ve paid off most of our house, and we just want to comfortably exist at this point.

Honestly? 8 million. I make a lot now but I could make a lot more. I think the only reason I won't reach it is if I decide to slow down to have a family.

likesmart

Sheesh this is possible? Lol

I'm 40, married with small kids, and our HHI is $500-600k depending on the year. I'd be happy if I could reliably stick with this income level (inflation-adjusted) through retirement. We live comfortably, do/buy whatever we want, and have built a solid nest egg. I wouldn't call our lifestyle lavish (not sure I could bring myself to live lavishly given my upbringing) but we don't stress about spending. If I could find a way to make more without it taking away from time with my family, I would pursue it, but otherwise, more money isn't worth the time.

I think this post needs to clarify if one stays in a firm or if one goes in house. Because unless you manage to become the GC of a very large company, these numbers are not realistic.

Currently making about a quarter mil. What does your plan look like to get to 3-5 mil? Super intrigued

I should add that I’m convinced it’s the most (big law firm) I’ll make versus different legal careers (like in house, gov, etc.) and not super sustainable so I’m trying hard to save money and pay off debt

2022 take home was approx $370k and I save about 50% of my take home, I’m expecting to take home about $410k in 2023. Now that I’m a partner, my goal is to get to $600k take home in the next 4 years and save at least $400k per year for 8 years and then retire. This seemed totally doable early 2022, but with the way the economy is looking, I might need to adjust expectations.

Would love to make at least a milli. Spouse and I take home about 190k after maxing out 401ks. Big law money feels too slow

I want to work in the Entertainment industry, which on average pays attorneys a notoriously low amount (regardless of firm or in house, except streamers) … so with that in mind $175-250K

I care about doing work that I love and living a comfortable (and sometimes lavish) life. I also will be paying off my loans this year, so my only future debt will be a mortgage

OP, your post is so tone deaf

I handleda very difficult and convoluted succession for a black family. My client was astute and intelligent. We got along great. His family was difficult. Willfully ignorant.

Part of the succession dealt with clawing back $450,000 in insurance proceeds that a niece fraudulent received from the decedent by making herself the beneficiary on policies. A separate attorney was hired to handle that part before I was hired to handle all other matters, including settling a $500,000 debt with the...

Anyone ever have experience negotiating a new offer to include unvested 401k match and stock grants from your current employer? This would be at a global director level.

Hi all, I’m in the north east metro area and due to the current RE market we decided to look into PA specifically Lancaster. Anyone in this market and have any thoughts on where it’s headed? We’re looking purchasing a single family property all cash at 110k that rents for $1100 a month. The last owner bought for 35k like 15 years ago 😩 but hoping buying and holding for a few years will give a equal or greater returns over the long run.

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. My question is, is it realistic for a 25 year old young professional to handle dealing with all the extra curricular’s that come with owning a rental property ?
