Like the medical field, I thought that there would always be a job. However, I find it not very true. However, that is why, plus, I have found criminology very interesting.
Wanting to help others and making sure our neighborhoods are safe
Ultimately I come from a family of law enforcement and thought with being a probation officer I would be able to really help those return back into society with rehabilitation. Found out very fast that it's a very small percentage of people who genuinely want to change and a large amount who are serial offenders. I still hold on to the small percentage.
I find law enforcement to be fascinating, particularly the connections to psychology and sociology. Also, I enjoy how varied a day at work is and how energetic the job is. This is crucial to me because I get bored easily. Also, I like that I'll be doing good deeds.
In my family, I'm the only one who chose to work in law ebforcement. I wanted to go into a career of helping people that didn't involve sitting at a desk all day.
I intended to work in a position that would allow me to help others and give back to my community. I initially planned to work as a paramedic. EMS severely impacted how I saw people and how I saw myself. It wasn't until I entered the field of law enforcement that my perspective on people really improved.
I wished to carry on my father's legacy. I witnessed some of the work he was able to accomplish firsthand, including the crimes he prevented, his readiness to assist, and his humility and modesty in refusing to boast.
I didn't want a job where all I did was sit in an office all day, I enjoy adrenaline rushes, and most importantly, there is nothing I detest more than those who take advantage of others. I also wanted to have interesting experiences to share.
Maybe because my grandfather, father and brothers are engaged in law enforcement. My sister is a lawyer and they are involved in the same line of interest. Law and peace and order. As the youngest person in our family, they inspired me.
When applying to this area, I quickly discovered the high crime rate. After growing up in an area with a high rate of crime myself, I understand the emotional distress that people in these kinds of communities experience. As a police officer, I would be able to use my authority to make people feel safe where they live.
