First and foremost before asking for a salary increase you need to write out a thorough list of all the duties your perform in and out of the office. Then cross reference what you do to what’s required within your role using your companies role delineation not job description (2 different things) review the role delineation and cross out the duties that’s required. Depending on what’s left over you need to provide substantial support/proof of those duties. Meaning what solutions or problems does it solve. For example. You said you are a Lead Medical Assistant do you train other MA’s and if so has your leadership helped to reduce the turnover/retention rate within your department/organization. Another example. You stated that you work managing the front desk what have you done to help increase the patient accessibility rate or patient experience within your office? One last example: you stated that you manage the inventory since you begun managing the inventory have you helped saved money? What about the way you manage inventory brings about best practices or quality control measurements? Basically you need to show that you performing these additional tasks bring forward solutions if you can’t support that then they will look at you as replaceable…they will basically see it as anyone can do the extra duties. I would also suggest that you conduct a salary research for your role, weighing your state using Glassdoor.com or salary.com just to get an idea of where to start. For all of the duties that you listed you fall under the role of a office manager so do research for that salary also. Lastly, you mentioned that you work as an uncertified Surgical Tech I would highlight the risks involved of performing this role and show why they should pay for you to get certified( that’s if you want to, I would because it’s money involved and a gate way to entrepreneurship) I’m a certified career coach and professional development educator for medical assistants with 19 years as a CCMA, Lead MA, MA Supervisor and Practice Management. www.themaexpert.net
I would love to talk with you. I'm looking for my next adventure in life. I'm a medical assistant for 20 years. Not sure what I want to do next
You should not get anything less then $28 an hour. You are cross trained pretty much everything to run the clinic. I live in Oregon and I do the basic things for an MA I’m at $23 hourly.
