Chicago public schools gave mine an iPad. Has been working great
Which school are you in? We got chrome books and they suck.
My son uses my iPad and daughter uses a MacBook. I bought myself a new one 😀
Two of them currently have Chromebooks, and the youngest is using my wife’s 10-year old hand-me-down MacBook that has battery and camera issues.
The Chromebooks were OK for a year or so, but now randomly stop connecting to the internet, keys on the keyboard are stuck and don’t work, and they have tiny terrible screens. Fine for very limited use cases but the high schooler couldn’t finish her work sometimes.
We are otherwise pretty invested in the ecosystem and I feel like these will last a long time, like the high schooler could easily use it for college in a couple of years.
I also considered iPads with keyboards but apparently they need some desktop apps that aren’t supported on iPad.
What is working for you?
Our school district issued a crummy iPad to my kinder kiddo and a chrome book to our 1st grader. I’m looking at buying a sale chrome book over the holidays.
Like anything, if you buy cheapo things they’ll break. We have a Google Pixelbook and build quality equals MacBook. That’s the comparison, not MacBook vs Asus.
I’m a lifelong Mac user, but won’t buy a Mac for my kids since they benefit so much from being able to use a stylus and touchscreen for their schoolwork.
I considered that, and spoke with other parents who are using iPads with keyboard and/or pencils. They tell me it works fairly well. Where we ended up is that my older kids are doing more long-form writing than drawing, so we decided to go with the Macs and see how it goes.
