My dad started a new job recently and his hiring manager is actually different from his real day to day manager. The hiring manager obviously likes him but the day to day manager does not. He's treating my dad in such a way as to get him fired during probation.
My dad is in his 50s and finding another job is going to be difficult, so we need to find a way to make this work during his probation.
**There are existing processes in place with templates and past examples that my dad has been following. His colleagues with the exact same job all agree that he is doing the work perfectly.**
However, this manager insists on reviewing all of my dads work (and ONLY my dads work, no one else's). During these reviews (which he drags on for hours), he's calling out a bunch of grammatical errors which are from the same templates the entire team is using. He's also adding in different technical standards that are not even his responsibility. My dad is still trying his best to understand and do as the manager says. However, this manager doesn't approve anything during follow up reviews and my dad is losing his mind.
The manager knows English is my dads second language so he's creating new standards and rules which no one except my dad is expected to follow.
This is totally unfair since his colleagues all say he's doing the work perfectly.
How can my dad protect himself? Is there a way he can document his manager's actions and protect himself?
Also, if anything happens, go to the EEOC first with a description and supporting docs. Then go to a lawyer if they turn you down or don’t respond in 90 days…but that might be an indication the case isn’t very strong.
