What would you do if you were in the process of hiring someone but found out they lied about some things on their resume? Would you simply rescind the offer? Or would you talk to them straight on about it and see what their answer is and go from there?

Depending on what they lied about

Depends what they lied about. If it was possible there was a misunderstanding, rather than a lie, I would talk to them straight on to see what their answer is.

I had this happen. The lie was so egregious we didn’t proceed, though we didn’t have a formal offer out. That said, we would have rescinded. In our case it was a blatant lie that was easy to identify due to, get this, a lawsuit the candidate filed.

🐠, need opinions/advice. Persistent recruiter asked me to consider having an exploratory convo with a company for a VP role even though I’m not looking to make a switch. That casual convo has morphed into two interviews this week, one with an SVP and EVP and one with the global head of the practice. It would be a $65k bump in salary. Worth going through with it? Should I mention that I’m not actively looking to leave my current job? Been here 6 months…

Question about remote job negotiations

I'm currently interviewing for a remote role for a company based in NY.

The thing is I'm based in a different city (southern U.S.)

My question is:

When it comes time to talk compensation, should I base the market rate for the role on my city of residence or NY?

Would it make sense to ask them directly how they determine comp for NY-bases vs. other city-based employees?

Anyone have experience with this?

In what order do you draft a patent application? I know the official answer is “it depends.” But what do you find yourself do most often? For me, it’s claims —> drawings —> spec.
