I’ve heard $85k base + bonus. Consultants seem miserable and it looks like a thankless job. Go online into most forums and read all the complaints they have. Major one I see is you can spend months to years working on implementing a strategy for your client, just for them to end up ignoring it. Also from personal experience dealing with consultants hired by the firm I work at, they just spout BS keywords and have zero understanding of the industry and how your company operates. They’re just there to bill hours. The travel seems to be a nice pro, but remember business travel < personal travel and ontop of that you’ll only have a few hours a day if any to explore the city you’re in. I’d recommend looking at buy side roles as you’ll find them much more fulfilling and they usually entail higher pay for less hours than consulting.
No, maybe look into going buy side
I worked at BLK fresh out of grad so not sure I’m of much help there
Given the responses here. You really want to ask yourself. Where are you looking to go in your career ? There are different paths, merely looking at hours and pay is a short term view if you are looking to be a leader in the future.
Having worked at McKinsey, I would say yes if you get the opportunity it’s way worth it and the reasons are as follows:
1. Brand value - wherever you step out after your chances to land great roles is amazing
2. You can use it as a pivot for your career and explore great engagements
3. Your chances to land at a great MBA program is significantly higher ( also if you are good, you will be sponsored for your MBA)
4. If you are someone who is young in your career which I assume you are early 20’s it’s less about the salary and more about the effect a role is going to have in your future next 3-7 years
5. Lastly salary is based on which McK office you land at, if you get the offer I am sure you can negotiate it to be better than your current salary
Hope this helps
Yes you can. I can provide some directional help but I have been out of consulting for a while now.
