I definitely agree in that aspect. "You miss every shot you don't take"-so I might as well attempt.
Thank you for advice.
That's fairly heavy at EY for a Senior, although I could see the Firm saying they want you to be a Senior for one year with the expectation to promote to Manager the following year, as well. If you are an experience hire, I would start the conversation at $125k with some perks like signing bonus at $7k. Worst they can say is no, but you should be within 10% of the pay band.
I have seen people screwed on this piece in the past. My advice is get it in writing from a Partner in the practice before accepting their offer. Each practice will have different metrics (e.g., utilization, sales, year-end rating). I would just be upfront and say that you will expect to be operating as Manager immediately, while accepting that the Firm will pay you as a Senior 3 for the first year; however, you feel that this investment warrants a promotion after one year with the Firm.
I wouldn't say "no one knows me", but I can understand your reasoning behind your statement. Yes, recruiters are known for pushing the "1 year promotion" notion. Variables apply differently to everyone however.
Its an ultra long shot at best -so make sure you consider whether you woukd still want to be at your new firm if you didnt get the promo for 2-3 years.
Just make you consider the best and worst case.
Best of luck either way
Recruiters have no say in the promotion process, don't trust what they offer unless its signed by the partner leading the practice
CISSP?
Yes.
Like a CISSP gets you more pay at the Senior level...

In response to the expectation to promote to manager within the year, are there specific metrics used to gauge this or a general performance evaluation?
Near 0 chance of promo to mgr within 1 year of joining.
Nobody knows you - so nobody will back your promo.
The "you will get promoted in one year" lie has been around since the early days of consulting
