What's the cruelest thing at work someone ever said to you that you still remember word for word? I’ll go first - my former boss when I was struggling learning excel formulas said, “I don’t know why we hire such idiots”. Made me too afraid to ever ask a question again.

I would have emailed HR. The time, date, context of the matter for record.

“F*uck your kids” — said in response to my polite heads-up that I’d have to duck out a bit early after giving my updates in a routine status meeting that was running past 5pm, to go pick up my kids from school. Said in front of a room full of colleagues.

uplifting

LOL. Seriously, HR would have just protected them though.

Well known CD and founding partner called me across office to then ask me to turn round. After which he said “nice, off you go”. What was just as bad was all the creatives around him laughing as I walked off.

M or F?

Was your former boss speaking to someone else when they said it? How did that person react? What a terrible boss.

“I’m not sure I have a place for you here.”

“i could hire someone off the street to replace you”

The most toxic boss I’ve ever had, when I pushed back against his toxic behavior toward my reports and creative leads, called me toxic.

"If you think that, you're not my agency."

"You're going to get trained, right?"

My boss told me I had a visibility issue with leadership and people think my partner does all the work. Later that day he gave me visibility by publicly chewing me out in writing for a missed revision in an internal…

“How did you get this job?”

That’s brutal. Im sorry

like

You're one of the best we hired, but your position right now is redundant.. (got laid off)

When I told my boss he never says thank you and stormed off, he shouted, “THAT’S WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR!!”

Talking to my new boss about my growth plan (that I had aligned on with her boss) during her first month at the agency and when I told her my goal was working to be a senior by EOY, she told me “I don’t think that’s going to happen” without having seen any of my skills or work. I’d been there for years and never had a boss crush my spirit like that.

Asking a question during my first week at my first job. “What are you, stupid?”

During what I considered one of the more serious performance reviews of my career, older male from leadership comment “Well hopefully your husband makes more,” with a laugh. The irony is, my husband is a man and he actually does! Two for Two.
I responded, “What if I got a divorce?” But I wish I had pointed out how it was blatant sexism, outdated, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. This industry SMH.

I would have through a fit how un professional and depressing . Emotional distress to hear that

"Oh, you're from one of THOSE towns. I drive through them on road trips and forget to think about how people actually live here." - the executive director at my company upon learning about my small hometown.

Anyone familiar with nanny taxes?
We've always just paid cash to our previous nannies and our new one is requesting to be paid via a W-2.
That will force us to pay additional 7.5% in FICA as employers.

Can we pay her on a 1099? How does that work and do we have to contribute anything ourself if we do similar to W2?

Please keep unhelpful judgments to a minimum regarding us trying to pay cash

Hi... Anyone joining at UBS this week or next?

My firm was recently acquired and compensation is unchanged. For context, I’m at the engagement manager level with the organization that was acquired, and with the NewCo, the coverage and responsibility is likely increasing. In this future state I’d effectively be managing more engagements.

Can anyone offer Do’s/Don’ts for approaching and navigating comp renegotiations? (Note: The individual I report up to hasn’t changed)

They cant put me on performance defaulters as I voluntarily resigned and also got good feedback from client.
The reason I resigned was the sh^^head manager and project.
He said I would be released from project soon and then on bench but after resigning he is saying you have to serve the NP n we cant release early.
This is only option left to get released from this sh^t place

Has anyone ever worked at an agency in which the project management department was properly utilized? I traditionally was brought up in my career where PM type tasks were handled by lower level AMs. I have observed separating AM and PM tasks into two separate departments just causes communication issues and lazy account people. Account people should have a good understanding of how much effort and time goes into a project. Project Managers are missing a lot of context so blind leading blind.
