There are just too many variables to answer this question. Its completely dependent of your client's, team, office, type of work, etc... For me personally, I moved from delottie to here a few years ago and couldn't be happier.
I very rarely work more than 40 hours in a week, my team and clients are all laid back and easy going. I got completely burnt out at delottie. Culture is what you put into it. Since covid I've been in the office/clients like 5 times. I'm an introvert so prefer "no culture" lol. But those who want it, get it.
I appreciate the comment!
Info on which practice would help.
Overall, the work culture is less intense than big 4. People sign off earlier, there is much less pressure to work more hours than you book. There are fewer jerks (or managers/SM/Ds to avoid working for) per 100 employees than big 4.
Frankly, the bar is a little lower, which is a mixed bag. On one hand, there's less focus on perfect slides in favor of good enough, which saves a lot of time and helps me feel more productive. On the other, the people generally have less impressive backgrounds (fewer fancy degrees or impressive work experience), and I felt I learned less from the more senior people (fewer wow moments, less insightful commentary).
A clear negative is that GT has terrible knowledge management. At big 4, you could go on the knowledge database and pull up methodologies and quals such, but GT has most of its stuff in Teams folders in each practice, so you have to know people or have access to see those materials.
Exits are a questionmark. Much less brand recognition than big 4, and many people go from GT to big 4 kr Accenture. If you go to industry, the shift will be based on doing the same work you did at GT or on yiur background before GT.
OP - how was your experience in the group at GT been?
I like culture a lot. If you’re smart and work hard you can go far here. Throughout being a SA and M I’ve gotten a ton of hands on feedback from partners and autonomy to manage my schedule and work.
Didn’t they just get bought out by Guidehouse? Cultural changes likely incoming.
PS competed with Big 4 Advisory. GT non PS is more of a 2nd tier accounting firm.
