It’s the Principal and fake Partner at BCG
No actual difference in terms of their authority, job description etc. Kearney’s culture is in fact very partner driven, and partners usually don’t treat APs any different than Principals. Point of the title is: It is not easy to become part of boss club so if you spend a few good years as principal, they’ll grant you AP title so that you can feel and sell better externally
Hierarchy is overt between Partners and others. Partners make all decisions and treat their subordinates as people under their absolute command regardless whether they are Principals or APs.

APs are partners externally, i.e. in client interactions and on their business cards, LinkedIn profiles, proposals, email signatures and whatnot it would say Partner
Yet they can't legally sign contracts and have same rates as principals
