This is the right answer.

I have feeling there’s about to be some very strong feelings on this one.

Oh, absolutely!

I feel like people use whatever term was used in the precedent / form they are using.

But generally it seems to me like exhibits tend to be copies of other documents while appendices tend to be lists, etc.

There are also annexes and schedules... And yes, I've worked on docs with exhibits, appendices, annexes and schedules...

like

Man ... seriously? I came here trying to make sure that I'm constructing this enormous Advocacy Packet correctly by making sure that I didn't end up puting something in an appendix that should have been in the Exhibit and you just HAD to go and add even more ....annexes .. schedules ... geez ... you know what? This is a massive undertaking for a non-lawyer, especially considering I'm going after the entire SSA complex in Federal Court so I'm not going to fret or worry myself too much about the titles just yet. But I will keep reading lol!

In corporate, it's whatever.

NO RULES.
We're wild and crazy!!!!
YEEHAW!!!

JKJK, we're excruciatingly boring.

While we're here might as well throw in Annex and Schedule into the mix.

NO! Let's just not! For those of us who are already trying to analyze the differences between two simple terms, we do not need y'all adding more! But thank you for your consideration lol.

Please don’t tell me there are people who call exhibits an appendix. Like appendix 1, appendix 2 etc? Honestly, the only appropriate action is disbarment. You’re EXHIBITING the point you’re making, not just sticking random stuff at the end.

like

I think this might be a transactional thing, because we definitely stick all sorts of random things at the backs of documents! 😁

#teamAnnex all the way

Exhibits are offered at hearing trial or depo. Appendix is whatever local court rules explain it to be in the relevant court.

In my experience, an appendix is a combination of source material like in an appellate brief with statute reference, record excerpts, and relevant orders. I have seen some attorneys use an appendix to list and compile multiple exhibits to support a motion or brief.

Boutique I have been eyeing has billable hour requirement of 1500-1600 and comes with a 20-25% paycut. Is this a stupid idea and should I grind it out until I can move in house? Will this ruin my opportunities down the road?

I have a promising interview at a relatively large law firm in my area (+100 attorneys) next week. The position is for a transactional role in their real estate practice group, and they are seeking someone with at least 2 YOE. I have a bit over 7 YOE with a strong real estate/commercial lit. background. Over the past two years in my current position, I've been doing a lot more transactional work. The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.
