Trust and estates. Idk what they do. I just know they golf a lot

likefunny

None. People who don’t like stress don’t become lawyers.

But if I had to guess, it’d be Trusts and Estates. If you mess up, you’ll all probably be dead before you find out.

likefunnysmart

Some of the most heated disputes I’ve seen have been trust and estates fights.

I would say compliance bc there is a Right and Wrong answer.

That’s the cost of doing business. Some businesses, like banks, for example, would rather get fined for noncompliance than complying for some items. Your job is to still advise them as such..

The only non stressful legal jobs would bore you to absolute tears. You’re a hired gun having to interact with other humans. There will always be an element of stress.

The least stressful legal field can vary depending on an individual's personal preferences and interests, but some commonly considered low-stress fields include:

Corporate Law: Corporate lawyers work with companies on a variety of legal issues such as contracts, mergers and acquisitions, and securities regulations. They typically work a traditional 9-5 workday and may not work on weekends.
Real Estate Law: Real estate lawyers assist clients with legal issues related to buying, selling, and renting property. They may spend a lot of time researching property titles and zoning regulations, but their work is generally less intense than other areas of law.
Tax Law: Tax lawyers specialize in the complex laws and regulations surrounding taxes. They help clients minimize their tax liability and ensure compliance with tax laws. Tax lawyers may work for the government, private law firms, or as in-house counsel for companies.
Estate Planning: Estate planning lawyers help clients plan for the distribution of their assets after death. They may assist with drafting wills, trusts, and other documents to ensure that a client's wishes are carried out.
Intellectual Property Law: Intellectual property (IP) lawyers advise and represent clients on issues related to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. This field can be less stressful as it is focused on research and paperwork rather than court appearances.
It is important to note that no field of law is completely stress-free, but these fields are considered to be less stressful than others. The day-to-day activities in these fields can include drafting legal documents, researching laws, and communicating with clients and other legal professionals.

You clearly know nothing about real estate law - maybe for residential but that is not what most real estate lawyers practice.

Funny, I find trusts and estates kind of stressful bc client is putting faith in me to square away all their financials, properties, and specific bequests in trust/will, and I get so nervous about doing it wrong or something lol

Definitely not stress free over here. Stable work, yes, stress free, no. 😅

I know two highly-skilled criminal litigators (defense attorney and prosecutor) who got burned out and went to practice trusts and estates. They're both much happier. So that makes me think trusts and estates is pretty low-stress.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?
