What’s the most difficult conversation HR professionals have to coach managers through? Sometimes I feel like it’s the performance conversations that have been avoided for too long.

That setting up expectations and consequences is actually the kindest thing you can do. I’ve seen teams a mess because the manager was overly nice (didn’t want to do anything or correct anyone), and now they aren’t performing and had no clue up until that point. Performance conversations are absolutely avoided for too long!

Absolutely!

The steps of verbal coaching turning to verbal warning to written warning is important. Then go to the PIP's with the idea that the employee is not losing their job but they have "X" amount of time to get their performance turned around. I find many managers do not want to have these conversations and in that order. re so They wait until they are so aggravated with the employee and now the employee doesn't stand a chance of a fair deal. All because the managers do not want to do their job and then have a PIP today and fire tomorrow. The steps are there to help the employee in coaching to become a more profitable employee, which helps the managers to be better managers. Many managers do not want the responsibility of teaching and helping the employee grow.

Definitely the conversations about job performance or role is the one .

Hi all,

I joined
KPMG around 3 months ago but I am not getting work here. Although, I qualified some project's interview, yet due to some internal reason, they considered someone else, and I again came on bench.

I am unable to figure out what can be done now.

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

Hello! Looking for some guidance. I will soon be leaving Verizon after 15 years with them (6 years HR experience, 3 years Operations, 6 years leadership). The last HR position I held will be eliminated and I was offered a severance. I am now in the market for a new place of employment I can call home. I was thinking of trying for a start up. But the likes of Google, Adobe, etc. also seem appealing. Would you recommend a start up as my next endeavor? I enjoy helping build processes and policies.

Hi!! I’m an HR Coordinator currently (about two years of experience) but my job has so many responsibilities and tasks I’m beyond burnt out. It’s truly impossible to focus on one task because things are constantly being thrown my way. I’ve heard whisperings of a promotion or raise, but my workload is already too much, I don’t know if I’d want to accept more responsibility. Is it normal to feel like you have just as many responsibilities as your superiors who make 30k+ more than you?

I have been on a planned personal sabbatical this year pursuing personal interests. Now I’m ready to go back to work. I will have next week the second interview with an exec recruiter for a company for a Director level position reporting to the COO of the company. In addition to having relevant experience and accomplishments handy, I would appreciate any pointers for having a good interview at this level.

New fish looking for career guidance.

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?
