Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

I don't think amazon does base pay higher than $170k for nearly any role, aren't they capped pretty low on base and make up for it with bonus/stock?
They cap the base at 160k, everything else will be bonus or stock (RSUs) vested over 4 years. Their stock vesting is interesting though, it is 5% year 1, 15% year 2 and then 40% years 3 and 4 I think. People very rarely survive 4 years there, so take your pick because you will never likely get the entirety of your stock options.
The standard raise is 3%ish, Amazon is not like other tech companies. Others in tech offer higher base and stock vest linearly.
I can’t remember the number exactly but they cap base so a good amount of your compensation will be stock
What M2 said. I actually think the cap is $160k and the stock vests on an exponential not linear scale over 4 years. They want long term folks so if you can live on that cash it’ll probably work out. They also pay on a monthly basis not biweekly/semi-monthly
Would that be a good enough bump for you to make the move? Think about your current compensation add base salary plus potential bonus
Yes. It's good for me given my current salary but I want to make sure it's the industry range because I am underpaid in my current role and I don't want that to happen again. I just want to get what's fair.
I see. Ok. Thank you, M2.
Ok. Thank you everyone for your inputs. I think I can live with that base cap. I also think the stock is good in the long run. Thanks again.
Thank you, SA1.
I m going the same path OP what’s the role you getting offered at amazon and what’s the base and stock they offered you ?
I think they are just setting expectations around the comp structure. They usually warn you that they (including Bezos) only get paid up to $160k and that total comp would include the stock options, but don’t go into specifics until after the interviews.
Agree with SA1 but Amazon gives heavy sign on bonus.. upwards of 90K which in your case will take your annual salary close to or above 200k
