What’s the work like at Tax Technology and Transformation at EY? Is the work interesting and how are the hours? They’re bringing me in as a first year out of college but I’m wondering if this is the right path for me and what kind of skill set will I develop and does it open great opportunities outside of public accounting?

Tax tech and transformation is a great path - it’s less tax-technical and more technology oriented. If you dream of being a tax-technical type person, this is not the right path. I feel that this path is better than compliance or other paths that will one day be replaced by AI

Arey bhai try toh karo …. What else do you want straight from campus ?

I found the work really interesting. I was involved in a lot of different things my first few years. As the years went on I specialized, and eventually focus specifically on one area.

Try to get exposure to several different things and figure out what you like and who you like to work with. Make sure to speak up

Is it difficult to transfer practices after joining?

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

I’m having trouble working in Tax. I’m overwhelmed and am feeling like I’m not producing my best work. I want to talk to someone at work about it but a) I don’t know who to go to and b) feel like it’s not worth it because there’s nothing that anyone can do but tell me to get a different job. I feel like I SHOULD say something to someone though, right? Idk. I’ve been on the job hunt for a while now and am not really having any luck, which is just adding to my despair. What should I do?
